1.
To capture the feeling To call back another time So fleeting The moment I was trapped inside Lost Drifting through an endless void No whispered wisdom Only oblivion I feel my heartbeat This vessel carries life Forsake The body and the mind No whispered wisdom Only oblivion And in an instant of solitude, Where the silence stretched forever, One breath became countless, And the transient thoughts of a thousand moments Came to pass This moment of silence This moment of stillness
2.
Approaching the fall Grasping fear We passed beneath our former selves Kneeled over, in tears In tears That tense, wrought grip brought this end Absconding the inevitable Tilling our sin Cast in darkness, reveal; begin, begin! Fading away through the mists of dawn Drawn to light We passed above our former selves Whole-bodied, endeared Beyond realms of terror Define this unveiling Unto nothingness succumb Flailing in endless night My end is my own, I am allowed to exist The ghosts of my being In suffering, they persist Thus advent Death, Gladly, I languish here
3.
Placed upon this expanse Between the banks of the spirit's kind The water flows freely here But not in our time The erosion painted lens of mind Is feigning beyond the trees The fire burns intensely here Set us ablaze, set us free An estuary upon this soul laid to bare In infinite horizons The torment of escaping Setting sight on this faint meaning Currents racing The Watcher's eye Gazing lightly Condemned by night Feeling again, Fleeing again Flooding A collective essence The universe a mold
4.
Cloistered 05:34
Upon broken earth Unmoored from reality The underbelly of consciousness Memory as continent A landmass of thought A forest in the mind’s eye Home of the Heartwood Veins grow like trees Anhedonia Plains of the spirit Rain of marrow Cloistered upon the hidden garden Look within to receive What you offer to yourself
5.
A quake to waken the brimstone cavern From ashes beneath they stir Rising embers to burn within A society in fiery splinters Soil torn; Heartgloom born Bestowing this burden The severed ties of dissolved minds Lifting us into nothingness Heartwood into ash again Hope deferred into ash again Against the waning light Against impossible fright Heartwood into ash again Hope deferred into ash again Basking in our fray This essence cast apart Uninhabited, unearthed, Blight of sight and mind A whole unto this fractured self Mended grain, mended mind
6.
Rays of golden sun Reach across the azure sky Touch the reaches of the hills Shine with glory as we ride Hold the fire in your hands Ancestral winds at your back Elemental primal force Prevail over Kanza lands To pass on through generations Weapons against tyranny; Tyranny Ascending truths They are taught

Six tracks span insights from two musicians peering into the despairing, nostalgic and triumphant spirit of our experiences. The album projects a journey of mind whose destination is abstracted in reflections of transience and in reverence for our homelands. Heartwood was written and recorded across the reaches of America's Heartland from 2017 - 2022.

Produced by Brad Trinkl, BC and CJ at The Horton House in Mission, Kansas.

Mixed and Mastered by Louis Pagan at Chapter 2 Recording in Lenexa, Kansas.

Album art by Alex Eckman-Lawn.

Releasing November 10, 2023 in digital and CD format.
